Frederick man faces drug charges

FREDERICK, Md. -- A Frederick man was arrested early Tuesday after deputies found suspected crack cocaine in his vehicle during a traffic stop, according to a Frederick County Sheriff's Department press release.

William J. Walz Sr., 34, was charged with possession of cocaine, deputies said.

Deputies stopped Walz for speeding Tuesday about 2:50 a.m. on Interstate 70 at Exit 56, the department said. A K-9 team scanned the vehicle and alerted officers to the odor of a narcotic, deputies said.

Shirts taken from Frederick mall

FREDERICK, Md. -- A group of people were seen taking several Ralph Lauren polo shirts from Macy's at the Francis Scott Key Mall Thursday, according to a Maryland State Police press release.


The department has surveillance images of the four suspects.

Martinsburg Police Department taking applications for Junior Police Academy

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- The Martinsburg Police Department is accepting applications for a Junior Police Academy program targeted at 9- to 14-year-olds.

The nine-week program begins March 11 and covers a wide range of police-related topics, according to a department press release. It will be held at the Martinsburg Fire Department at the intersection of North Raleigh and West Martin streets.

Applications are available at Martinsburg City Hall or from guidance counselors at public schools in Berkeley County, the department said. Applications must be returned to the Martinsburg Police Department by March 7 at 5 p.m.
