TOPS No. 77

The following is news from the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) No. 77 weight-loss support group:

On Monday, Feb. 18, Dorothy Smith, one of our KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly), led the program.

She gave some hints on keeping off pounds. She gave a list of six foods to avoid including soft drinks, foods containing Trans fats and high-fat dairy products. This was a very good program.

Linda Lemen, our walking and exercise coach, gave out charms for the months of July to September and October to December. Charms are given every three months for 250 miles walked, either with or without a pedometer, and exercising. Dottie Alexander, Rose Shockey, Judy Purdham, Patsy Price and Mildred Hluchy each received two charms. Linda said she was a little late in getting the awards out this time. Members are encouraged to walk or do some other kind of exercise.

Today, the group will be having its Play Money Auction. This is always a fun time. Members earn "money" by losing weight, keeping an eat sheet, wearing a name tag and various other things.

Everyone is welcome to visit. The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. Weigh-in is from 7:15 to 9:20 a.m., exercise or line dancing at 8:30 a.m., and the meeting is 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. For more information, call Donna at 301-223-8143 or Patsy at 301-582-2292.

TOPS No. 446

News from TOPS No. 446:

The Wednesday TOPS 446 group was so happy to meet again after having to cancel the meeting the week before due to inclement weather.

The group had five weeks in a row of "no gain" meetings before slipping. The group is picking ourselves up and with helping each other, the group will be back to being "Winning Losers" again.

The group plans to start a series of talks on "intuitive eating," eating when hungry, stopping when comfortable. The group hopes to learn self-acceptance; members should like who they are, not go by what the scales say. Anyone interested in learning with the TOPS group is welcome to attend.

The group meets Wednesdays at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown. The weigh-in is from 9 to 9:20 a.m. with the meeting from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Call Tom or Mary at 301-797-2547 or Judy at 301-797-9279 for more information or go to the group's Web site at www.topsmd446.com.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser planned

First Christian Church, at 1345 Potomac Ave, Hagerstown, will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser Saturday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The event will be hosted by the youth of the church. Tickets cost $6 for adults and $4 for those 6 to 10. Those ages 5 and younger can eat free.

For further information, call the church at 301-733-0144.
