HERSHEY, Pa. - Three area wrestlers are still in the hunt for PIAA District 3 titles after Friday's first day of action at Hersheypark Arena.

James Buchanan's Derek Straley went 2-0 at 171 pounds in Class AA and Chambersburg's Jimmy Hughes (112) and Joey Wilmot (160) each went 2-0 in Class AAA. All three will compete in the semifinals today.

In the quarterfinals, Straley was a 6-2 winner over Hamburg's Glenn Miller, Hughes pinned Dover's Abe Evans in 4:14 and Wilmot beat Central Dauphin's Justin Aube, 6-2.

James Buchanan's Alex Buterbaugh (152) and Waynesboro's Matt Nel (112) each went 2-1 and are still alive in the consolation brackets.

The top three at each weight in Class AAA advance to the state tournament in two weeks. The top six in Class AA advance to next week's Southeast Regional, where the top five advance to states.

Waynesboro's Jacob Smith (103), Ian Smith (145) and Evan Reed (215) are done after they each went 1-2 Friday. Chambersburg's Alex Swartz (171) went 1-2 and Chase Wenger (119) was 0-2. Greencastle-Antrim's lone qualifier, Anthony DeRigo (285), went 0-2 in Class AAA.

Allegany 60, No. 7 Boonsboro 48

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Brianna Twigg scored 18 points to lead Allegany (18-2), which outscored Boonsboro 32-10 in the fourth quarter Thursday night.

The Warriors (14-8) led 24-16 at halftime and 38-25 at the end of the third quarter.

Brynn Arnone had 22 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three blocks for Boonsboro.
