CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Chambersburg Police Department today charged a Gettysburg, Pa., man with three armed robberies that occurred in December 2007 and January.

Melvin L. Williams, 35, is charged with robbery and terroristic threats in the three holdups, police said.

The first was shortly before 1 p.m. on Dec. 22 at Video Den, 39 Southgate Mall, police said. A man with a knife confronted a female employee and grabbed money from the cash register, police said.

On Dec. 30, at 5:51 p.m., a man armed with a knife threatened a female employee at the Hess Station, 1070 Lincoln Way East, and stole money from the cash register, police said.

On Jan. 6, at 1:30 p.m., a man entered Lemoyne Sleeper, 1363 Lincoln Way East, and confronted a female employee, police said. The man, who appeared to have a weapon concealed in his pocket, again stole money from the register.

Williams, of 29 W. Middle St., is in Adams County Prison for a parole violation and is charged with committing armed robberies in that county during the same period, police said. The charges against Williams were the result of a joint investigation by the borough police, Gettysburg Police Department, Eastern Adams Police Department and Pennsylvania State police in Franklin and Adams counties, police said.
