HCC to offer seminar on trauma care

HCC, in collaboration with Washington County Hospital, is offering a full-day seminar titled Topics in Trauma Care.

It will be held on Thursday, March 6, from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Robinwood Medical Center, suite 142.

Topics will include initial stabilization of head injuries, the "golden hour," use of x-rays in the evaluation process, glucose management in trauma care and designer/club drugs. The seminar fee is $75 for the general public and $59 for Washington County Health System employees.

Pharmacy technician course offered

Hagerstown Community College is offering a 50-hour course to prepare students to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's exam. It will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6 to 9:30 p.m., March 4 through April 29 on the HCC campus

Technicians work in various health care settings under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. The course covers medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement.

The course costs $200, with a material fee of $794. It does not include national certification exam fees. To register for these courses, call 301-790-2800, ext 236.
