Event in Blue Ridge Summit to raise money for Happel's Meadow

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - A Happel's Meadow Wetlands Preserve fundraiser and educational event has been scheduled for 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Blue Ridge Fire Hall.

Environmental displays and presentations by the Antietam Watershed Association, Renfrew Institute, Happel's Meadow committee, local businesses and members of the Happel family will be part of the community event, according to a news release.

Music by D&M DJ Entertainment has been scheduled starting at 6 p.m., and the fire hall will be open for tours and safety instruction. Light refreshments will be served.

This event has been planned in cooperation with the local Girl Scouts' 2008 "Thinking Day" theme, which is caring for the environment with emphasis on water and its impact, the news release states.

Admission costs $5 for people ages 15 and older. Children younger than 15 can gain admission for $2 each.

Funds will be used to assist the Happel's Meadow committee with its wish list of bat houses, flying squirrel houses, plant identification markers and walkway trails to enhance the wetlands preserve, the news release stated.
