Smithsburg Middle

From the PTSA:

The PTSA would like to congratulate the students who participated in the Wolfgang candy fundraiser.

The turnout was amazing and showed your school spirit. The PTSA hit its goal of $10,000 in sales, and the proceeds will go to the ELA program for their technology packets.

The officers would also like to thank all of the PTSA members for their help in distributing packets, counting orders and getting the orders out to the students, even though the weather held us up for one day. You all did a terrific job and we could not have been successful without you!

Please keep an eye out for our upcoming activities in the following months. The PTSA looks forward to a lot of after-school activities for the students.

The school is in need of volunteers for the talent show in May. This will be an opportunity to see just how talented the middle school students are.

If you are interested in helping in any way, please call 240-537-3232.

Keep clipping those boxtops. They earn money for the school. The school will have another contest for the homeroom which collects the most boxtops.

Fitness workshops

The Washington County Recreation Department, in cooperation with the National Exercise Trainers Association, will host a fitness instructor certification and a continuing education workshop at Hagerstown Community College.

The group fitness instructors certification workshop will be held Saturday, March 29.

A stability ball workshop for continuing education credits is on Sunday, March 30.

If you are looking at a career in fitness and need group fitness certification, you can do it on Saturday, March 29 at HCC.

If you are a certified instructor and need continuing education credits to keep your certification valid, join NETA Sunday, March 30, for a six-credit course on the stability ball.

For safety purposes, the fitness industry urges all fitness facilities to hire instructors who are professionally certified. If you own a fitness center, take the opportunity to send your staff to HCC for these workshops.

For more information, call the Washington County Recreation Department at 240-313-2805. You also can go online at for workshop and registration information.
