Eagles' Breen signs with FMU

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Hedgesville senior Erin Breen signed a letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C.

Breen had 10 goals and two assists for the Eagles last fall and was named to the All-Apple Valley League First Team and The Herald-Mail All-Area Second Team.

Francis Marion went 10-7-1 last fall in its first season as an NCAA Division I program.

Bulldogs win "Battle of the Barn"

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. - The Hagerstown Bulldogs U16 Upper A team went 4-0 last weekend in winning the "Battle of the Barn" tournament.

The Bulldogs beat the Vineland (N.J.) Patriots 8-0, the Chester County (Md.) Cougars 9-2 and the Regency Ice Cats from Lancaster, Pa., 7-1 in pool play, then defeated Chester County 4-3 in the championship game.

Eric Bowers had nine goals and eight assists on the day to lead the Bulldogs. Elliott Martin had four goals and six assists, Dustin Nead had five goals and three assists and Joe Wirling had two goals and five assists. Taylor Donaghue stopped 39 of the 40 shots he faced in goal.

Girls softball registration

The Washington County Girls Softball League will hold spring registration for elementary and middle school girls at Dick's Sporting Goods in the Centre at Hagerstown on Feb. 23 and March 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and at Extra Innings in Hagerstown on Feb. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Church softball meeting

The Hagerstown Area Church Softball League will hold an organizational meeting March 4 at 7 p.m. at Tri-State Fellowship on Cearfoss Pike. Small churches may merge with others in order to form teams.
