Around Funkstown

I'll take it

A pleasant Tuesday morning to everyone! And pleasant is indeed the word I would choose ... I know it is temporary, but this mild break sure is welcome!

With spring right around the corner, fun activities abound and now is the time to mark your calendar to make sure you squeeze them in.

Church bazaar

A personal favorite of mine is the church bazaars and rummage sales - fun and interesting items and there's always great food.

Emmanuel United Methodist Church on Summit Avenue will hold its semi-annual rummage sale on Friday, Feb. 29 and Saturday, March 1, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be a plethora of baked goods, soups, sandwiches and other treats.

Basket bingo

Let's peek ahead a bit and see what the South Hagerstown High School PTA has planned for April.

Two words that perk people up for sure are "basket" and "bingo!"

On April 13, the Funsktown Fire Hall will hold a basket bingo to benefit the South Hagerstown High School PTA.

The doors will open at noon and bingo begins at 1 p.m. There will be approximately 20 games of regular bingo with some special games thrown in. Include three raffles, tip jars and food available and it sounds like a complete afternoon.

All baskets will have the matching protectors and some even have the liners ...the bonus is that all baskets will be graciously filled. Half of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the SHHS PTA. If you would like to purchase tickets, call Tiffany Stottlemyer at 301-393-5852.

Happy birthday

A very special happy birthday wish to my grandson, Xander.

The big man is now 1 year old and just a joy to his family. Happy birthday!

Recently, we all were shocked and saddened by an event that hit us hard with the death of a valued member of the county and officer with the Smithsburg Police force.

To honor him and ensure the continuation of his ideals of honest solid police service, the Christopher S Nicholson Memorial and Scholarship Fund was set up.

Partnering with the memorial and scholarship fund, the Texas Roadhouse is holding fundraiser nights on Feb. 25, 26, 27 and 28.

So next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, simply stop by the Roadhouse on Edgewood Drive and enjoy a fabulous dinner and feel good about it!

You will need to present your server with a flier and those are available at the Hair Cuttery beside Martin's on Dual Highway.

Here is how it works, bring the flier, enjoy a great meal, give the flier to your server and 10 percent of the cost of your food will be donated to the Christopher S. Nicholson Memorial and Scholarship Fund. Hope to see many of you there!

Until next time

Enjoy your week ... be kind to others ... and be careful that the words that leave your mouth are only sweet ones ... you may have to eat them!
