"The Apathy Pill"

February 19, 2008|By E.L. SYVERSON

For a while, all I did was care.
Other people's problems were my mine to swallow
because I refused to take mine with water.
If I helped enough, I'd be fine
and my own troubles would disappear.
Without them, am I useless?
Who's here to save me?
Now, I've become distant.
There are no more roads to roam
and no more paths to pick.
I've been cornered and shot.
Everything comes back to me.
A cold slap to the face: Reality.
No longer worried, I'mtaking my own advice.
When it comes to matters of the heart,
don't forget the grain of salt.
