Three wrestlers win PIAA section titles

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg's Jimmy Hughes (112 pounds) and Waynesboro's Evan Reed (215) won titles Saturday night at the PIAA District 3-AAA Section I tournament.

The top three in each weight class qualified for the district championships, which begin Friday at Hersheypark Arena.

Jacob Smith (103) and Ian Smith (145) each placed second and Matt Nel (112) was third for Waynesboro.

Joey Wilmot (160) took second and Chase Wenger (119) and Alex Swartz (171) each placed third for Chambersburg.

Anthony DiRigo was the runner-up at 285 for Greencastle-Antrim.

Cumberland Valley topped the 11-team field with 169 1/2 points. Waynesboro was fourth (93), Chambersburg sixth (74) and Greencastle 10th (25).

In Class AA Section IV at Susquenita, Derek Straley was the champion at 171 and Alex Buterbaugh was the runner-up at 152 for James Buchanan.



Heritage 53, Shalom 41

MARION, Pa. - Steven Barthalow made 5 of 7 3-point attempts and finished with 19 points as Heritage Academy wrapped up a perfect regular season in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference with a victory over Shalom Christian on Friday.

Hamilton Stamper added 20 points and six rebounds for the Eagles (19-2, 14-0), who outscored the Flames (13-9, 8-6) 14-6 in the third quarter to pull away. Cody Butts had five assists and five steals.

Tyler Strite led Shalom with 17 points.
