Helen M. Rowe, 81



OCT. 28, 1926-FEB. 15, 2008

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. -- Helen Myree Payne Rowe, 81, of Bunker Hill, and formerly of the Harrisonburg-Linville, Va., area, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born Oct. 28, 1926, in Harrisonburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert Edward Lee and Mamie Elizabeth Davis Payne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Clinton Rowe, in 2003. They were married Sept. 20, 1952.

She was a 1943 graduate of Linville-Edom High School.

She was an inspector for Capital Records.

She was a former member of the VFW Post 896 Ladies Auxiliary of Martinsburg, W.Va., and a member of Martinsburg Women of the Moose 738 and College of Regents of the Ladies of the Moose.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Rowe of Bunker Hill; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. The Rev. Clarence Moyers will officiate.

A graveside service will be today at 3 p.m. in Linville United Church of Christ Cemetery.




C. Louise Melzer, 77



NOV. 6, 1930-FEB. 14, 2008

C. Louise Melzer, 77, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 6, 1930, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy J. and Jane Etter Pheil.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Melzer.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg (Pa.) High School and a 1951 graduate of Washington School of Nursing.

She was a nurse at Washington County Hospital for 44 years.

She was a member of the National Chapter of AARP.

She is survived by her sister, Doris A. Ardinger of Chambersburg; two nieces; two nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Earl Mills will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to services.




Ray E. Waugh, 84



MARCH 21, 1923-FEB. 15, 2008

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Ray E. Waugh, 84, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Autumn Assisted Living in Hagerstown.

Born March 21, 1923, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas Warner Waugh and Evaline Everett Waugh.

He retired from General Motors in 1986 as a skilled trade millwright.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Berkeley Springs.

He had played baseball in the Tri-State Leagues.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Sheppard Waugh; one daughter, Diana Craig of Staunton, Va.; three sons, Jed Waugh, Jack Waugh and Scott Waugh, all of Berkeley Springs; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one infant son, Joe D. Waugh; two sisters, Virginia Stuter and Helen Orr; and three brothers, Jack Waugh, Jesse Waugh and Fred Waugh.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Berkeley Springs. Paul Cantrell will officiate, assisted by Douglas Petty. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, with military graveside services by the Tri-State Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.

Walter F. Morganthall, 79

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- Walter F. Morganthall, 79, of 13733 Lower Edgemont Road, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at his home.

Born Sept. 18, 1928, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late George F. and Tressa Ferguson Morganthall.

He attended schools in Leitersburg and Mont Alto, Pa.

He worked as a shipping and receiving clerk for Frick Co. in Waynesboro, retiring in 1994 after 33 years.

He was a member of Blue Mountain Church of God in Smithsburg, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent trustee, financial treasurer, elder and president of the church council. He later joined the Germantown Church of God in Cascade and served as trustee and member of the church council.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Bloom Morganthall, whom he married in May 1948; three daughters, Sharon A. Rock of Waynesboro, Jonie L. Weise of Statesville, N.C., and Lisa D. Bryant of Waynesboro; one sister, Charlotte Wilders of Greencastle, Pa.; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Germantown Church of God, Cascade. Pastor Mark Hosler will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
