National Book Network leases distribution center in Hagerstown

HAGERSTOWN - National Book Network recently signed a long-term lease for its newest distribution center in the General Electric building at 18212 Shawley Drive in Hagerstown.

The company will be utilizing half of the 300,000 square feet owned by First Industrial Realty Trust. The company also has a 300,000-square-foot distribution center in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.

The operation is starting up.

Seven people are working at the distribution center. Two peopole were moved from within the company, and there are five new jobs, said Al Patterson, vice president of distribution for National Book Network.

Among the plans for the site are to utilize it to distribute books sold on the Web and to to work with publisher Bernan, which would do about $8.5 million of business with the company, Patterson said.

"We chose Hagerstown because of its work force, location and proximity to our Blue Ridge Summit (Pa.) operations," Jed Lyons, CEO of National Book Network said in a written statement.

National Book Network is owned by Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group Inc.
