Rainbow All Starz cheerleaders off to good start

February 17, 2008

The competitive cheer teams from Rainbow All Starz have started their competitive season with a bang.

In only five competitions this season, the teams have accumulated six first-place wins, four by the small senior Xplosion and two by the small junior Xcel.

During the month of November, the senior team won grand champion at the Central Pennsylvania Cheer Challenge in Lewistown, Pa., having the highest score of 24 other teams.

At their next competition, the Central Pennsylvania Cheer Challenge in Harrisburg, Pa., both teams took first place and in addition, they received a cash award for being the third best program at the competition.

In January at the Spirit Cheer Chocolate Spectacular in Hershey, Pa., Rainbow Xplosion won their division and Rainbow Xcel took second. The first-place win comes with a full paid bid to Spirit Cheer Nationals in Tampa, Fla., and the second- place win gives the junior team a paid bid.

They recently added a mini team to their program, which began competing in January. Rainbow Minis took second place at their very first competition. In addition, both the junior and the senior teams won first place in their respective divisions. Rainbow was also awarded Best Sportsmanship. This award is voted by the other coaches and teams attending the competition. This will give them a chance to receive a full paid bid to Nationals in Virginia Beach in March, decided by a drawing.

Rainbow has three teams: Rainbow Xplosion - a small senior team, ages 18 and younger; Rainbow Xcel - small junior, ages 14 and younger; and Rainbow Minis ages 5 through 8.

Teams consist of girls from Hagerstown and Smithsburg from Washington County and Chambersburg, Fayetteville, Greencastle, Mercersburg, and Waynesboro in Pennsylvania.

In March, the junior and senior teams will be attending two National competitions, Battle at the Capital in Fairfax, Va., and the Grand National Championship by the Sea in Virginia Beach, Va. All teams will end their season at the end of April at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. There will be an informational meeting in May for the 2008-09 competitive season.
