Text of Del. Robert A. McKee's letter of resignation

February 16, 2008

The following was faxed to The Herald-Mail on Friday on Del. Robert A. McKee's Maryland House of Delegates letterhead.

"State Delegate Robert A. McKee issued this statement today:

"On January 31, 2008, deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant at my residence in Hagerstown. They seized my personal computer and other items, including images that are available on the Internet.

"For me, this is deeply embarrassing. It reflects poorly on my service to the community as a state delegate and as executive director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Washington County. Accordingly, I am resigning today from both positions.

"I have instructed my counsel to cooperate with law enforcement to resolve these matters. In the meantime, I have entered treatment. My primary focus is to get well and stay well. I know this can only happen with the support and prayers of my family and friends and the help of professionals.

"For 13 years, I have served the people of Washington County in the House of Delegates. For 29 years, I have served the Hagerstown community through the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I have had to help my friends and neighbors.

"I would like to thank my friends and colleagues for their outpouring of support. In the long run, I hope and pray that my work in the local community for the last three decades will speak louder than the challenges I now face."
