OAKLAND, Md. -- Southern Garrett beat Williamsport 72-6 in the semifinals and Mountain Ridge 41-25 in the finals to capture the Maryland Class 2A-1A West dual-meet title Thursday night.

The top-seeded Rams (16-0) won 13 of the 14 bouts against the fourth-seeded Wildcats (16-6), including 10 by fall.

Robbie Mies pinned Nolan Marple in 2:31 at 160 pounds for Williamsport's lone win.

"They're a state-championship-caliber team," Williamsport coach Mike Rechtorovic said. "We could have wrestled better. We had a few matches we were winning and ended up getting pinned, but it wouldn't have made much of a difference, just less of a thrashing.

"If you make it to the West region duals, you had a pretty good year, so no reason to hang your heads. The West region is always one of the toughest in the state, if not the toughest."

In the other semifinal, Mountain Ridge beat South Carroll, 41-25.
