McDonald's renovations under way

Anyone passing by the Clear Spring McDonald's restaurant can't help but notice that there is a whole lot of remodeling going on.

There is also a prominent sign out front so travelers can be assured that it is business as usual despite the construction.

Stanley Neal of Stan and Sandy Enterprises said he hopes the work will be completed by the end of February.

"We are adding 30 additional seats," Neal said.

The other change is how the restaurant will look, Neal said.

With a keen interest in the communities where his restaurants are, Neal recently presented several groups in the Clear Spring area with generous cash contributions.

Among the recipients of his generosity were the Clear Spring High School student council, the Clear Spring High School Band Boosters, the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co., Clear Spring District Historical Society, Clear Spring Lions Club and the Clear Spring soccer league.

Robin Papa is a math teacher and student council adviser at Clear Spring High School.

"We decided to split the money between the council, the Future Farmers of America and the faculty," Papa said. Three families were identified as being in need and then "adopted" over the Christmas holidays.

Those families, which have a total of eight children, received appropriate gifts, including bicycles and safety equipment as well as Christmas dinners in some cases, Papa said.

"Mr. Neal has always been a very good friend of the fire company over the years," Capt. Charles Mundey said. "Whenever we needed donations or help of any kind, Stan has been right there."

When asked how much this year's contribution was to the fire company, Mundey said he hasn't seen the check yet.

The band boosters are expected to use their money for new uniforms, a spokesman for the organization said.
