West End Little League registration

Preregistration for West End Little League will be held on the following dates:

Today - From 6 to 8 p.m. at Western Enterprise Fire Department.

Friday - From 6 to 8 p.m. at Western Enterprise.

Saturday - From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Western Enterprise.

Preregistration is for boys and girls ages 5 to 12.

Tryouts at West End Little League will be held at Hellane Park on the following dates:

March 8 - From noon to 1 p.m. for 9-year-olds; 1 to 2 p.m. for 10-year-olds; 2 to 3 p.m. for 11- and 12-year-olds.

March 10 - From 5 to 7 p.m. for 9-year-olds.

March 11, - At 7 p.m. for 10-year-olds.

March 12 - From 5 to 7 p.m. for 11- and 12-year-olds.


If you miss preregistration, you are more than welcome to register in March at the tryouts.

Winter Street School attendance effort

Winter Street Elementary School students are working hard to improve school attendance.

Principal Matthew Semler wants every student to "bee" here and "bee" on time.

Students who have perfect attendance are recognized daily, monthly and quarterly. The class with the most "perfect attendance" days is recognized monthly.

Ms. Shaw's fourth-grade class won the January Principal's Attendance Challenge with perfect attendance 14 of the 20 school days for the month.

The following students had perfect attendance for January:

Mr. Orndorff (prekindergarten): Kyle Bradshaw, Breanna Burdette, Jeffrey Geyer III and Payton Stotelmyer.

Mrs. Sturtz (prekindergarten): Kathy Balbuena Dominguez, Kevin Bradshaw, Donald Dechalus, Kira Hartley, Chantelle Hunter, Lillyn Raum and Dane Russell.

Ms. Moats (kindergarten): Isaiah Mitchell.

Ms. McCarter (kindergarten): Aaliyah Books, Lamont Cockell, Jacob Patterson, Jacob Speaker and Amber Winters.

Mrs. Raley (kindergarten): Ryan Caniford, Jeremy Peralta and Carlos Ramirez.

Spring craft bazaar to benefit Arc

The Arc of Washington County's Vocational Day Program will be having a spring craft bazaar on Friday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Featured will be a variety of spring and Easter country crafts, raffles, food and baked goods.

All crafts are handmade by Arc individuals and staff. The Vocational Day Center is at 840 Florida Ave., Hagers-town.

All proceeds will go to fund activities for the individuals at the Vocational Day Centers. For more information, call Barb Greenwood or Julie Kane at 301-797-0052.

West Hagerstown Lions Club

On Feb. 18, the West Hagerstown Lions Club will be hosting the Region II meeting.

All Lions members within Region II are welcome to attend at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington Square United Methodist Church.

Dinner costs $9. Please make sure you reserve your spot by today by calling Donna at 301-790-2036.

On March 8, the West Hagerstown Lions Club will be holding a pancake breakfast at Girls Inc. on Washington Avenue.

Pancakes, Hoffman sausage, puddin', orange juice and coffee will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. The breakfast costs $4 and preschool-aged children will be admitted free.

There will also be a craft table open during the breakfast.

Alastia Club plans golf tournament

The Alastia Club is planning its annual golf tournament to be held May 23 at Caledonia State Park in Fayetteville, Pa.

The club is looking for sponsors. All businesses and individuals are welcomed to sponsor one of the holes on the golf course. For $100, you will have your business and/or name placed on a plaque at the hole you desire.

Call Russell Richards at 301-733-9277 by May 9 if you are interested in sponsoring a hole or if you have any questions.

If interested, you may also join the tournament for a fee of $50 per person, which covers green fees and lunch.

There will be prizes for first-, second- and third- place winners. Door prizes will also be available.

All proceeds from the golf tournament will be provided to those who are less fortunate in the community.
