Funkstown Lions Club celebrates 50th anniversary with party

The Funkstown Lions Club celebrated its 50th anniversary on Dec. 7 at Beaver Creek Country Club. There were more than 60 people in attendance.

Past International President Clement Kusiak was the principle speaker for this special event. Funkstown Lions president Luther Knight presided and emceed for this celebration.

The tables were decorated in the Lions colors of purple and gold. After the buffet dinner, the rededication of the charter was given by District Gov. Barbara McKinney.

A Melvin Jones Fellowship Award was presented to Gail Mongan. The fellowship is in honor of the person who started the Lions Club in Chicago in 1917. Gail is the 15th member of Funkstown Lions Club to receive this award.

A special award was presented to Jack B. Welch, as a charter member with 50 years of perfect attendance and service.

The Funkstown Lions meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Members raise more than $8,000 a year to give to many worthy causes and organizations, with major emphasis on eyesight.

The Funkstown Lions Club was chartered on Dec. 7, 1957.
