Carolyn L. Harshman, 86

MYERSVILLE, Md. - Carolyn L. Harshman, 86, of Myersville, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at her home.

Born Nov. 7, 1921, near Myersville, she was the daughter of the late Russell D. and Ruth E. Blickenstaff Harshman.

For more than 50 years, she was a saleslady in downtown Frederick, Md. and the Fredericktown Mall, specializing in shoe sales.

She was a member of Garfield (Md.) United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four sisters, Lucille Martin of Middletown, Md., Patricia Guyton of Burkittsville, Md., and Pauline Hoover and Betty Gaver, both of Myersville; 20 nieces and nephews; 29 grandnieces and grandnephews; and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Ida I. Bear; and two brothers, Francis C. Harshman and Russell H. Harshman.

A memorial service will be Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at Garfield United Methodist Church. Pastor Randall Reid will officiate.

Dora L. Burke, 81

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Dora Lee Burke, 81, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008.

Born Feb. 9, 1926, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Helen Britt Miller.

She was a 1944 graduate of Martinsburg High School.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Feledis Sunday School Class and the Senior Bible Study Group.

She was a member of FRA Auxiliary and Enjoy Growing Old Club, and a volunteer at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald K. Burke; five children, Helen Rowe of Middleburg, Va., Kathy Terrell of Kingston, Wash., Patti Hoffman of Kearneysville, W.Va., Debbie Alderton of Falling Waters, W.Va. and Donald Burke Jr. of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; one sister, Evelyn Locke; 11 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.

Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Pastor L. Jack Rudy and Pastor John Waidande will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Beulah L. Horst, 88



JAN. 5, 1920-FEB. 6, 2008

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Beulah L. Horst, 88, of 244 Village Square Menno Haven and formerly of Paramount, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Jan. 5, 1920, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Abram S. and Gertrude Gehr Horst.

She was a self-employed domestic worker and housekeeper.

She was a member of Cedar Grove Mennonite Church near Greencastle, Pa. and attended chapel service at Menno Haven.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers.

A memorial service will be Saturday, March 1, at 3 p.m. at Cedar Grove Mennonite Church in Greencastle. The Rev. Stephen Fretz and Chaplain Vernon Isner will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Clear Spring Mennonite Church Cemetery.

There will be no public viewing.

Pauline C. Cole, 84

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Pauline C. Cole, 84, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Canterbury Center.

Born Oct. 15, 1923, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late William Hopkins and Nearl Murphy Hopkins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Earl Cole Sr.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Margaret B. Peyton of Martinsburg; two sons, Melvin E. Cole Jr. and Bruce W. Cole, both of Martinsburg; one sister, Patricia Stevens of Roanoke, Va.; three half sisters, Mary Dawson, Frances Hopkins and Helen Hopkins; two half brothers, Harry Hopkins and Garland Roach; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Stella Siler; two sons, Roger D. Cole and David Cole; one sister, Shirley Taylor; and six brothers, Toby Hopkins, George Hopkins, William Hopkins, Charles Hopkins, John Hopkins and Robert Hopkins.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Jeff Owens and the Rev. Tom Tennis will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
