Two flown to Washington County Hospital after 4-vehicle crash on I-270

Two men were flown to Washington County Hospital this morning after they were injured in a four-vehicle collision on Interstate 270, north of Md. 80 in Frederick County., Maryland State Police said.

Kenneth Carr, of Charles Town, W.Va. and Anthony Johnson, 71, of Silver Spring, Md., were both listed as patients in the emergency room at about 11:15 a.m. today, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Two other men also involved in the accident were not injured, troopers said in a news release.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, troopers said.

The accident happened at 7:50 a.m. when two vehicles, one driven by Johnson, were heading north on Interstate 270 and sideswiped each other, troopers said. Johnson's vehicle crossed the median, sideswiped a third vehicle and struck a fourth vehicle head-on. The third and fourth vehicles had been traveling in the southbound lane of the Interstate, troopers said.

Carr had been driving the vehicle that was struck head-on.

Troopers closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 270 for about two hours after the crash.
