Washington County deputies respond to incidents



The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to the following incidents Wednesday, according to Lt. Mark Knight:

· At 12:30 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the area of Byron Drive. The windshield of a 2007 Chevrolet truck was smashed.

· At 8:30 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the 12000 block of Christy Avenue. The back window of a vehicle was smashed.

· At 9 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the 25000 block of Warren Avenue. The rear window of a 1995 Dodge van was smashed.

· At 10 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the area of the Valley Mall. A window was smashed out of a window.

· At 11 a.m., breaking and entering was reported in the 9000 block of Governor Lane Boulevard. A fence was damaged.

· At 6:45 p.m., attempted breaking and entering was reported in the 15000 block of Falling Waters Road. Nothing appeared to have been taken.




Hagerstown police report



Hagerstown police responded to the following incidents, according to a news release:

Thursday, Jan. 31:

· At 1:29 p.m., theft was reported in the 400 block of West Franklin Street. An MP3 player was taken.

Monday

· At 6 p.m., unattended children were reported in the 1300 block of Salem Avenue.

· At 6:14 p.m., theft and burglary was reported in the 200 block of Alexander Street. A blue-and-silver motorized scooter was taken.

· At 10:43 p.m., breaking was entering was reported in the 1000 block of Security Road.

Tuesday:

· At 11:26 a.m., theft was reported in the 1000 block of Main Avenue. A vehicle tag, Maryland No. 07532C, was reported stolen.

· At 1:04 p.m., theft was reported in the 300 block of Jefferson Street. A vehicle tag, Maryland No. lRl913, was stolen.

· At 2:13 p.m., indecent exposure was reported in the area of East Franklin Street and Jonathan Street.

· At 3:39 p.m., theft was reported in the 1600 block of Wesel Boulevard.

Wednesday:

· At 2:29 a.m., theft was reported in the 700 block of Cross Street. A vehicle tag, Maryland No. 331796B was taken.

· At 9:12 a.m., theft was reported in the 800 block of Mulberry Avenue. A vehicle tag, Maryland No. GNG799 was taken.

· At 3:18 a.m., disorderly conduct was reported in the 100 block of South Potomac Street.




Cops: Frederick County merchants sold tobacco to minors



FREDERICK, Md. - Owners of 11 Frederick County businesses face fines for selling tobacco products to minors during a Frederick County Sheriff's Department compliance check Jan. 29, according to a department press release.

The department checked 42 local businesses throughout the county, the department said.

The following merchants sold tobacco products to minors, according to the Sheriff's Department:

· Citgo in Green Valley

· Exxon in Mount Airy

· Shell in Mount Airy

· High's in New Market

· Exxon in Urbana

· Jubilee in Emmitsburg

· Getty in Emmitsburg

· CVS in Thurmont

· Food Lion in Thurmont

· Sheetz in Walkersville

· Bottom Dollar on Crestwood Boulevard in Frederick

Clerks at the businesses face a court appearance, possible fines and community service, the department said. Owners face fines from $300 to $3,000, and after three offenses can lose their state-issued licenses to sell tobacco products, the department said.

The program was funded by a grant from the Cigarette Restitution Fund through the Frederick County Health Department's Substance Abuse Prevention Services.




Glasses case found on U.S. 11 in Pa. contained cash



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A glasses case with cash in it was found beside the road Friday at the Natural Market Place on U.S. 11, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

Pa. beer distributor is victim of break-in



FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Someone broke in to C.H. Newman Beer Distributor in Fayetteville, Pa., Jan. 28, but fled without taking anything when a motion sensor alarm was set off, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

The break-in happened at 3:54 a.m., police said.

Laptop, iPod stolen from vehicle in Pa.



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - An Acer laptop and an Apple iPod were stolen Tuesday from a vehicle at Chambersburg Mall, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

The theft happened between 3:30 and 5 p.m., police said.

Vehicles collide at Quincy intersection



WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Two vehicles crashed Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Tomstown Road and Mentzer Gap Road in Quincy Township, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.
