Hagerstown man charged with drug crimes after sting

A Hagerstown man was charged with drug crimes Wednesday following an undercover investigation, according to a Washington County Narcotics Task Force press release.

Sidney Carl Brewer, 51, of 919 Summit Ave., was charged with distribution of heroin, possession with the intent to distribute heroin, two counts of possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and being a common nuisance, officers said.

A confidential narcotics informant purchased heroin from a man on Jan. 21 in the area of Summit Avenue, officers said. Because of that purchase, police were able to obtain a search warrant for 919 Summit Ave., officers said.

During a search of the home, police found drug-related paraphernalia, including a digital scale, plastic bags, assorted pills and $888 in cash, police said.

Washington Co. Sheriff's Department responds to incidents

The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to the following incidents Wednesday, Lt. Mark Knight said.

· At 12:30 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the area of Byron Drive in Smithsburg. The windshield of a 2007 Chevrolet truck was smashed.

· At 8:30 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the 12000 block of Christy Avenue near Smithsburg. The back window of a vehicle was smashed.

· At 9 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the 25000 block of Warren Avenue in Cascade. The rear window of a 1995 Dodge van was smashed.

· At 10 a.m., malicious destruction of property was reported in the area of Valley Mall. A window was smashed out of a vehicle.

· At 11 a.m., a breaking and entering was reported in the 9000 block of Governor Lane Boulevard near Williamsport. A fence was damaged.

· At 6:45 p.m., an attempted breaking and entering was reported in the 15000 block of Falling Waters Road south of Williamsport. Nothing appeared to have been taken.

Hagerstown Police respond to incidents

The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following incidents recently, according to a department press release.

Thursday, Jan. 31

· At 1:29 p.m., a theft was reported in the 400 block of West Franklin Street. An MP3 player was taken.

Monday

· At 6 p.m., unattended children were reported in the 1300 block of Salem Avenue.

· At 6:14 p.m., a theft and burglary were reported in the 200 block of Alexander Street. A blue-and-silver motorized scooter was taken.

· At 10:43 p.m., a breaking was entering was reported in the 1000 block of Security Road.

Tuesday

· At 11:26 a.m., a theft was reported in the 1000 block of Main Avenue. A vehicle tag, Maryland 07532C, was reported stolen.

· At 1:04 p.m., a theft was reported in the 300 block of Jefferson Street. A vehicle tag, Maryland lRl913, was reported stolen.

· At 2:13 p.m., indecent exposure was reported in the area of East Franklin and Jonathan streets.

· At 3:39 p.m., a theft was reported in the 1600 block of Wesel Boulevard.

Wednesday

· At 2:29 a.m., a theft was reported in the 700 block of Cross Street. A vehicle tag, Maryland 331796B was reported stolen.

· At 3:18 a.m., disorderly conduct was reported in the 100 block of South Potomac Street.

· At 9:12 a.m., a theft was reported in the 800 block of Mulberry Avenue. A vehicle tag, Maryland GNG799 was reported stolen.

Greencastle Police investigate theft of purse

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - The Greencastle Police Department on Friday was investigating the theft of a purse from a vehicle in the area of East Baltimore Street, according to a department press release.

The purse contained the owner's birth certificate and a portable GPS unit, police said.
