Preps Area Roundup

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Greencastle-Antrim senior Jared Smith signed a letter of intent Wednesday to attend the University of New Hampshire and play for the Wildcats.

The 6-foot-4, 275-pound defensive tackle was named to the first team of both the Herald-Mail All-Area and All-Mid-Penn Colonial teams last fall. Smith totaled 62 tackles, 10 sacks, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles and two blocked field goals as a three-year starter for the Blue Devils.

Smith is described on the University of New Hampshire Web site as "a big, strong interior defensive line prospect. He is explosive off the football and will greatly help improve UNH depth on the defensive line."

The Wildcats are a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly NCAA Division I-AA) program. They lost 38-35 to top-seeded Northern Iowa in the first round of the FCS playoffs last season and finished 7-5.
