Comptroller honors Maryland's top e-filers

ANNAPOLIS - In an effort to acknowledge Maryland tax preparers who file their clients' income tax returns electronically, Comptroller Peter Franchot honored 24 tax preparation services that recently implemented the use of e-filing for their clients. One tax preparer from each county and Baltimore was selected to receive this award. A total number of 1,383,289 tax returns were filed electronically for tax year 2006, of which 887,827 of them were filed by commercial tax preparers. Overall, there was a 9.71 percent increase from 2005 to 2006 in electronic filing.

Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County

FREDERICK, Md. - With 11 new homes under way, Dave Ozag, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County, has hired Bill Wivell of Emmitsburg, Md., as its first full-time construction supervisor. He had worked part time as construction supervisor on several Habitat projects.

In 2006, he supervised the construction of the first Habitat home in Thurmont, Md. Wivell has also traveled to Biloxi, Miss., with a group of Habitat volunteers from Frederick to rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. He has 20 years of experience in the construction field.

D.M. Bowman

D.M. Bowman has hired William "Bill" Campeau as chief financial officer. Upon receiving degrees in finance and accounting from the University of Detroit, he spent five years in public accounting, and since then has held senior finance positions in the transportation industry. Campeau will be responsible for managing all accounting activities, financial reporting, cash management, forecasting, budget preparation and analysis, insurance and pension administration.

Shepherd University

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shelli Dronsfield of Waynesboro, Pa., has been named assistant to the president at Shepherd University.

As assistant to the president, Dronsfield will assist and advise President Suzanne Shipley on a wide range of administrative issues and initiatives, including research, policy analysis, and speech writing. She will coordinate board, community, and public relations activities for the president.

Dronsfield had served as the assistant to the president at Trinity University, Washington, D.C. She previously worked as a community development coordinator with the City of Hagerstown.

She earned a bachelor's degree in communication arts at Hood College.

Bowers Insurance

Jeff Bowers, certified financial planner, of Bowers Insurance, has been accepted into Ed Slott's Elite IRA Advisor Group, which works on effectively managing the distribution of assets from individual retirement accounts (IRAs).

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Quad/Graphics recently announced the following appointments at its Martinsburg facility: Melissa Howe of Gerrardstown was named customer service manager; Damon Marks of Berkeley Springs was named finishing manager; Terry Simpson of Hedgesville was named customer service manager; and Kenny Stolipher Jr. of Martinsburg was named imaging manager.
