WARWICK, R.I. -- Hagerstown Community College was unable to match up with the size of Community College of Rhode Island on Sunday, falling 77-42 and bringing the Lady Hawks' 21-game winning streak to a screeching halt.
"The biggest thing was the size difference," HCC coach Marlys Palmer said. "They had a set of twins who were 6-foot-3, and everybody else on the floor was 5-8."
The Hawks (21-1), ranked sixth in the NJCAA Division II poll, held their own for much of the first half, trailing 26-20 late before Rhode Island (18-4) closed with a 10-4 run to lead 36-24 at halftime.
HCC also suffered through a poor shooting performance, going just 29 percent (15-for-52) from the field and hitting on just 1 of 14 3-pointers.
