Seventh-day Adventist Church to open center on Salem Avenue

February 02, 2008

Officials from the Seventh-day Adventist Church are in the process of opening an educational and religious center at 449 and 451 Salem Ave. in Hagerstown.

Earlier this month, the Hagerstown Board of Zoning Appeals granted the Chesapeake Conference Association of Seventh-day Adventists permission to open the center, provided its activities don't run at the same time as those at the nearby Maranatha Romanian Pentecostal Church of God, said Steve Bockmiller, city zoning administrator.

Bockmiller said the stipulation was made to prevent parking problems.

Seventh-day Adventists observe Saturday as the Sabbath.
