Will we have to pay taxes on rebate?

Question: "I'm calling about the $1,200 that my wife and myself should get from the tax rebate from the federal government, and I was wondering if we are going to have to pay taxes on that money, and if we do if it won't be $1,200 like the government is actually saying. I'd like to have an answer." - Clear Spring

Answer: Jim Dupree, a spokesman for the Internal Revenue Service in Baltimore, said he wouldn't be sure about the answer to that question until Congress approves the economic stimulus package.

"I can't comment on anything that's pending," Dupree said.

The Associated Press reported Thursday that the Senate hopes to complete the economic stimulus package by the end of this week.
