Hagerstown Trust donates to United Way, other nonprofits

January 30, 2008

Hagerstown Trust Co. and its employees recently donated $20,000 to United Way of Washington County.

United Way strengthens families, nurtures children, promotes self-sufficiency and sustains health and wellness for all citizens of Washington County.

United Way is now, and has always been, a "grass-roots" volunteer-driven organization. More than 250 volunteers plan, establish policy, review and approve financial reports, admit new member agencies, establish agency funding needs, raise funds, allocate resources and participate in every aspect of United Way.

Hagerstown Trust Co. is proud to be a part of this community-wide effort to help its friends and neighbors in need.

In addition, in lieu of sending out holiday greeting cards, Hagerstown Trust Co. opted to make contributions to local charities. The bank donated $1,000 to Food Resources Inc., a local nonprofit organization that provides emergency food assistance.

Food Resources serves more than 20,000 people of all ages in Frederick and Washington counties each year by hosting food drives, promoting hunger awareness and delivering food to homebound residents through its Pantry on Wheels program.

In addition, the bank also donated $2,000 to Children In Need, a local nonprofit organization that provides everyday necessities to children and families in need.

Children in Need offers low-income families of Washington County with personal care items, gently used clothing and school supplies.
