W.Va. Del. Duke files for another term

January 29, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Berkeley County Republican Del. Walter Duke did not have an primary election opponent as of Monday, according to the Berkeley County Voters Registration office.

In a news release, Duke, 60, of Martinsburg, said he filed for re-election to continue efforts to provide tax relief and education funding reform.

"I am proud of what I have helped accomplish since I was elected," Duke said of efforts to tackle workers' compensation, medical malpractice reform and unfunded retirement debt, among other issues.

Citing tax relief and education funding as his high priorities, Duke said growth-related issues in the Eastern Panhandle have triggered a "desperate" need for property tax relief, more school-aid formula reforms, and better solutions to deal with traffic issues and transportation funding.

First elected to the 54th District seat in 2002, Duke and his wife, Mary, have two adult sons, as well as two grandsons in Wisconsin.
