A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at The Homewood Suites by Hilton Hotel in Hagerstown on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Business and community leaders were joined by elected officials, and presentations were made by City of Hagerstown Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II and Washington County County Commissioners President John Barr.

The multi-million dollar five-story hotel just off Railway Lane, at 1650 Pullman Lane, near Outback Steakhouse, includes exceptional amenities.

"This is the first Hilton-flagged hotel in Western Maryland," said Tom Riford, the president of the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"Our Board of Directors, staff, and membership welcome this new 102-suite hotel. This is a top-of-the-line lodging property, and brings a new look to the hospitality industry in Washington County. We have been working with the Homewood Suites' management for more than a year in preparation of this hotel's opening, and have helped book events and rooms for the hotel."

The hotel is owned by Bowman 2000, LLC and managed by Bowman Hospitality & Convenience Inc. The upscale hotel is designed for guests who stay for five or more nights, but is also perfect for short stays and families who need to feel more at home while they are traveling.

"We have eagerly awaited the opening of this great new hotel. To have a Hilton-flagged hotel in Washington County speaks well for our community, and will bring more business and corporate travelers. Everyone will benefit," said Doug Anstine, chairman of the board of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Anstine said Homewood Suites ads to the "inventory of fine lodging opportunities available to visitors to Washington County."

The Homewood Suites by Hilton has 102-suites (most are large and spacious two-room suites, some are three-room suites), full kitchens, executive business center and complimentary high-speed Internet access. The hotel offers a daily breakfast and also a daily light meal.

Amenities include an indoor pool, Jacuzzi suites, lounges, outdoor basketball court, workout rooms and a small store. The meeting space in the hotel can accommodate groups of up to 100 or more. Francine Donachie is the general manager of the new Homewood Suites by Hilton.

There are more than 205 Homewood Suites by Hilton around the nation, with another 125 planned. The Hilton Corp. has more than 2,800 hotels in 76 countries.
