Fairmont St. 72, Shepherd 63

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Thad McFadden scored a game-high 23 points to lead Fairmont State (12-5, 6-4) over Shepherd University in the West Virginia Conference.

Liki Turner posted a double-double with 12 points and 18 rebounds, Fred Lymas had 18 points and four assists, while Jonathan Motichka and Derek Gallagher added 12 points each for the Rams (10-7, 4-6).

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Laura Harkins had 14 points and six rebounds as Shepherd upset Fairmont State, ranked 12th in NCAA Division II.

Trailing 46-39 with four minutes left, Shepherd went on a 17-5 run to end the game.

Krissy Grosselin had 14 points, Rebecca Frece had nine points and four rebounds, Colleen Shumaker had seven points and eight rebounds, while Nylia Zamora had five points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Rams (11-5, 8-2).

Gabby Gattuso had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Jaime Merinar had 11 points and nine rebounds for Fairmont State (15-2, 9-1).

Rams' Wallace third in Hardman voting

Shepherd University senior tailback finished third in voting for the 2007 Hardman Award, given to the West Virginia Amateur Athlete of the Year as voted on by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.

Wallace finished behind West Virginia quarterback Pat White and USC freshman basketball star O.J. Mayo, a native of Huntington, W.Va. It's the best finish by a Shepherd athlete in the award's history, surpassing Dan Peters, an All-American defensive back who finished fifth in 2006.
