Kristen Poffenberger of Smithsburg has made the dean's list at Frostburg State University for the third semester in a row.

She is a 2004 graduate of Smithsburg High School. She is pursuing a degree in physical therapy.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Muhlenberg College has announced that Michael Goodrich, a member of the class of 2011, made the dean's list for the fall semester of 2007.

A graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown, he is the son of Wayne and Donna Goodrich of Shepherdstown, W.Va.

In order to make the dean's list, students must earn a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average on a 4-point scale.

Cara Walsh of Boonsboro has been named to the dean's list at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa.

She is majoring in art-photo/electronic.

Students make the dean's list if they complete at last four letter-graded courses and earn a minimum grade-point average of 3.50 for the semester.

Rebecca L. Jefferies graduated magna cum laude from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., on Dec. 15. She was named to the president's list for the fall semester. She received a bachelor of business administration in marketing.

Becky now lives in Milwaukee and works for Johnson Controls.

Becky is a 2004 graduate of Boonsboro High School and is the daughter of Mary Fran and Chris Jefferies of Hagerstown.

Stefanie Michelle Twigg of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list at Elon University for the fall semester. The school is in Elon, N.C.

SALISBURY, Md. - Two Sharpsburg area residents recently graduated from Salisbury University.

They are Brian Smith, B.S., chemistry, summa cum laude; and Brandon Ziska, B.S., marketing.

They were among the 437 students who received 388 bachelor's degrees and 49 master's degrees at the winter commencement ceremonies held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center.

CONWAY, S.C. - Alicia A. Grier of Hagerstown has made the dean's list at Coastal Carolina University for the Fall 2007 semester.

To qualify for the dean's list, freshmen must earn a 3.25 grade-point average and upperclassmen must earn a 3.5 grade-point average.

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Andrew Cole Chambers, son of Karla and Skip Chambers of Williamsport, was named to the dean's list for the 2007 fall semester at Washington College in Chestertown.

He is pursuing a degree in education.

Andrew is a 2006 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown. He is also is a member of the Washington College Shoremen basketball team competing in the Division III Centennial Conference.

Travis Ross Hendershot, son of Curtis and Renee Hendershot of Hagerstown, has been named to the dean's list for the 2007 fall semester at Champion Baptist College in Little Rock, Ark.

Travis is majoring in youth ministry and plans to become a youth minister.

Trey Cushwa has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Shepherd University. Trey is a freshman majoring in secondary education and is a 2007 graduate of Hedgesville (W.Va.) High School.

Trey is the son of Alisa Cushwa and the late Terry Cushwa and grandson of Harold and Mary Cushwa of Martinsburg, W.Va.

CUMBERLAND, Md. - The Allegany College of Maryland Foundation has announced the awarding of ACM Presidential Scholarships to three students from areas east of the Cumberland campus for study in the 2007-08 academic year. The scholarship recipients are all 2007 high school graduates.

Jorden Sanders of Little Orleans is a nursing major. A Washington County Technical High School graduate, she is the daughter of Chris and Michelle Sanders.

Amanda Decker of Warfordsburg, Pa., is a nursing major. She is a graduate of Southern Fulton High School. She is the daughter of Tracy Decker.

Cecelia Fischer of Little Orleans is a pre-nursing major. A Hancock Middle-Senior High School graduate, she is the daughter of Ronald and Sharon Fischer. She took Hagerstown Community College classes while in high school.

Mallory Geesaman, daughter of Terry Geesaman of Waynesboro, Pa., and Lori and Steven Wriston of Hagerstown, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2007 semester at Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

To be eligible for the honor, a student must have a quality-point average of at least a 3.5.

Geesaman, a junior, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in secondary social studies and citizenship education.

She is also an active AmeriCorps member where she serves at the Keystone SMILES facility in Knox, Pa., in addition to volunteering at other locations in the Clarion area.

Emily B. Myers of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2007 term at Furman University in Greenville, S.C.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Myers of Hagerstown.

Furman's dean's list is composed of full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The list is compiled at the end of each of Furman's three terms.

Julia Lauren Pangborn of Hagerstown recently received a bachelor of science degree in early childhood/elementary education from Frostburg State University during its 131st commencement ceremonies.

She graduated magna cum laude on Dec. 15 when FSU President Jonathan C. Gilbralter conferred nearly 440 undergraduate and gruaduate degrees at the commencement.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Michael Pangborn.

She is a 2002 graduate of Smithsburg High School and a 2005 Hagerstown Community College grad.

Corey L. Kershner of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2007 semester at Potomac State College, Keyser, W.Va.

In order to be eligible for the dean's list, students must earn a 3.0-3.669 grade-point average and be enrolled full-time.

Kershner is an electrical engineering major.

ALBANY, N.Y. - Brenda Elizabeth Shapiro, a resident of Kearneysville, W.Va., has earned an associate in science in nursing from Excelsior College in Albany.
