Washington County Commissioners' positions on charter home rule

January 26, 2008

Will you vote for the proposed charter Feb. 12?

President John F. Barr: Yes. "It would be a great thing for Washington County."

Vice President Terry L. Baker: Not sure. "I've heard arguments for and against, and I don't want to throw my support either way."

Commissioner Kristin B. Aleshire: Not sure. "Regardless of which form of government the county has, it is the responsibility of that body to govern in a countywide process."

Commissioner James F. Kercheval: Yes. "It's the right time for us to adopt a charter."

Commissioner William J. Wivell: No. "The referendum requirement and debt levels are too high. And the council doesn't need seven members."
