NEELYTON, Pa. - A body discovered Thursday morning in a wooded area of Huntingdon County has been identified as that of Steven Baird, a Franklin County nursing home executive missing since Jan. 2.

Baird, 33, of 1868 Bell Ave., Chambersburg, Pa., was last seen leaving for work on the morning of Jan. 2 in his black 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Police said the cause and manner of death were undetermined, but there was no evidence of foul play.

Huntingdon County Coroner Ron Morder said an autopsy will be performed today or Saturday at J.C. Blair Hospital in Huntingdon, Pa.

The vehicle with Baird's body inside was discovered at about 8 a.m., police said. The Jeep was on a logging road on a wooded area off Pa. 641 in Dublin Township and was found by the owner of the property, Morder said.

Following Baird's disappearance, Pennsylvania State Police in Franklin County said that there was no credit or debit card activity or cell phone calls to indicate where he might have gone. At the time, police also said they knew of no reason Baird might have gone missing voluntarily.

Information about Baird was entered into the National Crime Information Center database after his disappearance, police said.

Baird was hired as human resources director at Menno Haven last summer, Wendy Cowan, Menno Haven's chief officer for Marketing and Public Relations, said earlier this month.

"It is with the deepest of heartfelt sympathy that we have learned of Steve Baird's passing," Menno Haven President Rod Mason said in a statement. "Please join us and continue praying for Steve's family and others as we all begin to grieve this tragic ending. We all loved Steve so very much and will miss his smile and flair for a long time to come."

Neelyton is just northwest of the Franklin-Huntingdon line.
