Korean War vets group to receive charter

The new Korean War Veterans Association chapter in Washington County will receive its charter Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at the AMVETS on Frederick Street.

The charter will be presented by a national director of the Korean War Veterans Association. A number of state officials, members from the sponsoring Frederick chapter and local members will be present.

To join, one must have served for at least 30 days in Korea from World War II until the present, or served anywhere between 1950 and 1955.

The fledgling chapter has a president, Edward A. Stahl Jr. Other officers include Ned Renner, 1st vice president; Wayne Winebrenner, 2nd vice president; William L. Bishop, secretary; Donald A. Smith, treasurer; and Howard Patterson, sergeant-at-arms.

National dues are $25 a year. Members who are older than 65 can pay a one-time life membership of $150.

Anyone wishing to join may obtain an application at the AMVETS on Frederick Street. Those interested also may e-mail Stahl at EAS@pa.net or turn out for the Feb. 5 meeting.
