Capito to seek 5th term in Congress

January 23, 2008

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia's lone Republican in Congress says she wants to serve another two-year term.

Second Congressional District Rep. Shelley Moore Capito filed her re-election papers Tuesday to officially kick off her campaign for a fifth consecutive term.

The Republican from Kanawha County says she wants to continue working with both Republicans and Democrats in Congress to create opportunities for West Virginia.

According to the Secretary of State's Web site, Capito is the only candidate to seek the GOP's nomination for the 18-county district seat.

West Virginia State Sen. John Unger, D-Berkeley/Jefferson, announced in May he is running for the Democratic nomination for Capito's seat, but has not officially filed his candidacy papers.

South Charleston resident Thornton Cooper also has filed for his party's nomination.

The filing deadline for this year's elections is midnight Saturday.
