Police investigating armed robbery attempt in Inwood

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. ? Berkeley County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an attempted armed robbery at approximately 3:30 a.m. today at the Shell Gas Station/ROCS store in Inwood, W.Va.

A man entered the store, produced a knife, and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk immediately hit an alarm panic button and retreated to the store office. The man then attempted to open the register, but left the store after being unable to do so.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and immediately searched the area for the suspect, but were unable to locate him.

The man was described as white, approximately 40 years old with a medium build, 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was wearing jeans and a gray hooded sweat shirt with the hood pulled tightly to partially conceal his face. He also had a red flannel jacket over the sweat shirt.

The clerk told deputies the man had a droopy or hanging eyelid over his right eye.

The gas station/store is at 4701 Gerrardstown Road in Inwood.
