Diversity celebration

Hagerstown Community College, The Herald-Mail Co. and the Community Foundation of Washington County will sponsor the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday in the Athletic, Recreation and Community Center at the college.

The celebration will include interactive diversity workshops for elementary students, middle/high school students and college students/adults.

Marvin Worthy, educational consultant and trainer, will deliver the keynote address, "King's Message in 2008." The Rev. Darin Mency of the Greater Campher Temple will perform a dramatic rendition of King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

The event will include poetry readings, musical selections and a luncheon.

The event is free.

Interactive display

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - An interactive exhibit titled "A Civil Rights Experience" will be on display through Thursday as part of the celebration of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.


Designed by Shippensburg University student Riley Cameron, the exhibit is in the multipurpose room of Our Lady of the Visitation Church on North Prince Street in Shippensburg.

The exhibit offers viewers a glimpse of what it was like growing up during the civil rights movement by depicting prominent events and struggles during that period.

The hours are Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
