County government workers donate $7,000 through 'casual day'

Washington County Government Employees donated more than $7,000 to charitable causes in 2007, through "casual day" events, the County Commissioners announced.

Employees had the opportunity to contribute to any of 15 events held throughout the year to benefit local and national charities, and employee families that have suffered catastrophic events.

Recipient organizations included Muscular Dystrophy, Juvenile Diabetes, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Parent/Child Center, the Community Free Clinic, the Kevin's Fund Golf Tournament, "For Our Kids Sake," Children In Need, United Way Day of Caring, Breast Cancer Awareness, Food Resources, and Toys for Tots. In addition, three local families were assisted.

Food Resources received 445 pounds of food in addition to monetary donations. The Toys for Tots drive received more than 00 toys during its campaign.

More than 2,400 employee participations were recorded over the calendar year.

Casual Days are held once each month, and on special occasions. Employees usually donate $2 each for the opportunity to "dress down" at work for a day.
