Some Harpers Ferry residents without power today

January 18, 2008

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. ? About 120 Allegheny Power customers in Harpers Ferry are without power this morning after a power line was overloaded early Friday morning, according to an Allegheny spokesman.

A section of line in the Mt. Mission area of Harpers Ferry was overloaded at about 3:50 a.m., according to company spokesman Allen Staggers.

Staggers said the company's power lines have fuses that shut down overloaded lines.

He said about 260 customers were without power when the incident happened and that the rest of the affected customers should have power restored this morning.

The outage was most likely due to a high demand for electricity, Staggers said, and was not the result of a storm-related event such as a traffic accident or fallen tree limb.
