Harding, Schriner team for win

Jeff Harding and John Schriner won the Tom Hollenshead Memorial Scratch Doubles Tenpin Tournament at Dual Lanes in Hagerstown.

The duo qualified fourth with a 12-game game total of 2,848.

Other qualifiers were Jeff Sainer and Mike Whisman (2,961), Mike Fox Jr. and Kelly Chapman (2,861), Danny Wiles and Bobby Carter (2,859) and Kurtis Barron and Brian Hahn (2,842).

In the Baker Doubles Finals, Harding and Schriner beat Barron (221) and Hahn (215) and Wiles and Carter (150), then defeated Fox Jr. and Chapman 300-257 and Sainer and Whisman, 213-205.

During qualifying, Travis Yeates tossed a 299 game and John Funk Sr., Steve Maggi and Jeremy Nave tossed 300 games.

Nave added games of 269 and 256 for an 825 set and Hahn tossed games of 289, 277 and 238 for an 804 set.

All will receive awards from the United States Bowling Congress.

Harding and Schriner tossed a 300 game in Baker Doubles (bowlers alternate frames).

Former Hub Mency wins freshman honor

Merrimack College's Dee Mency, a former North Hagerstown star, was honored as the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season after averaging 23 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games this past week.

He had 24 points, six rebounds and three assists against Bryant and a double-double against Pace with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Hoop shoot scheduled

The Elks West Regional Hoop Shoot will be held on Jan. 26 at 9 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown.

The West Regional includes champions from Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett and Washington counties.

Washington County's representatives are:

8-9 girls - Sydney Hockensmith (Fountain Rock); 8-9 boys - Kasayus Ferguson (Potomac Heights); 10-11 girls - Kayla Huntzberry (Old Forge); 10-11 boys - Jeremy Cooper (Conococheague); 12-13 girls - Elyse Koterwas (Smithsburg); 12-13 boys - Justin Lewis (Boonsboro).

Offseason baseball training

The Diamonds Winter Workout for boys and girls ages 8 to 18 will be held at the 4-Star athletic complex in Williamsport each Sunday from Jan. 20 to Feb. 24 from noon to 2 p.m. Area high school coaches will be on hand to work with players on hitting and throwing.
