Senior-high retreat at Camp Joy El

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Senior high students in grades nine through 12 are invited to attend a winter retreat Friday, Jan. 25, through Sunday, Jan. 27, at Camp Joy El, 3741 Joy El Drive.

Dwight Myers, education director for Antrim Brethren in Christ Church in Greencastle, will discuss the theme "Back to the Future." He will teach campers how the decisions they make today affect their futures and how to make wise decisions.

Campers will go to Whitetail Mountain Resort for snow tubing the afternoon of Jan. 26. The registration fee is $55 and an additional fee for snowtubing is $16. There is no snow-tubing fee for those campers who do not wish to snowtube.

Camp check-in begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25. The retreat concludes at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27.

Playground activities for preschoolers

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. -Jefferson County Parks & Recreation Commission will offer preschool playground activities from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 2, through Feb. 23, in the Jefferson County Community Center preschool room. $5 per visit, or 3 to 4 p.m. Saturdays, March 8, through March 29, in the Jefferson County Community Center preschool room. $5 per visit. Play dough play date

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. -Jefferson County Parks & Recreation Commission will host a play dough play date from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25. For ages 3 to 5, program No. 365. Discussion on blended family issues

FREDERICK, Md. - Using character-based principles from the Parent Power curriculum, Pat Hammett will address sibling issues, setting boundaries and other issues facing step-families. Advance registration is requested. Successful Step-Parenting will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 23 and 31, Feb. 7 and 14, at Families Plus!, 35 E. Church St. The program is co-sponsored by Families Plus! and the Mental Health Association.

Anger management for parents, children

FREDERICK, Md. - Parent/Child Anger Management Group, a multi-week anger management group for parents and elementary school-age students, will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 24 and 31, Feb. 7 and 14, at Families Plus, 35 E. Church St. The course, led by Carmen Turner will involve an interactive overview of anger management techniques, information and problem solving skills. Registration is required.
