'She's Gotta Have It'

This is the long-awaited DVD debut of the 1986 film that marked director Spike Lee's emergence as a force in American movies. Made over 12 days with a budget of $175,000 (it grossed more than $7 million at the box office), the film stars Tracy Camilla Johns as a fiercely independent young woman from Brooklyn who is involved with three different men. Unfortunately, the DVD contains no bonus features; a commentary filled with Lee's reminiscences would have been most welcome. (MGM Home Entertainment, $19.98, rated R)
