Potterfield pool rates mostly unchanged

The rates at the city's Claude M. Potterfield Pool will stay the same as last year, with the exception of season passes for out-of-town residents.

The Hagerstown City Council on Tuesday gave Recreation Facilities Coordinator Lewie Thomas permission to set the rates for the 2008 season at the swimming pool:

· Ages 3 and 4: $25 for city residents, $30 for noncity residents.

· Ages 5 to 12: $55 for city residents, $65 for noncity residents.

· Ages 13 to 61: $75 for city residents, $90 for noncity residents.

· Ages 62 and older: $50 for city residents, $60 for noncity residents.

· Families up to five members: $125 for city residents, $150 for noncity residents.

Thomas said the rates are comparable to those of other pools in Washington County.

The pool opens Memorial Day weekend.

Among other things, Lestitian said he would like to work more closely with the Hagerstown Police Department to abate graffiti.

He also proposed holding mortgage companies responsible when they foreclose on a property and let it fall into disrepair.
