Winter art classes



FREDERICK, Md. ? Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center, 40 S. Carroll St., has announced its winter schedule for art classes. Classes begin during January and February and run four to 10 weeks. Children's classes include ceramics, drawing, painting and wood. Other class offerings for adults include ceramics, drawing, matting, jewelry, painting, photography and woodworking. Boating skills and seamanship

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. ? Chambersburg Flotilla of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will present a boating skills and seamanship course. The course is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and the United States Coast Guard. Successful completion of the course will lead to a certificate which satisfies the nationwide requirement to operate a personal water craft and Pennsylvania's requirement for those born after Jan. 1, 1982, to operate a powerboat of 25 or more horsepower. 6:30 p.m. registration, 7 p.m. instruction. FCC String Ensemble

FREDERICK, Md. ? Frederick Community College's Department of Music will offer a new class for players of string instruments ? violin, viola, cello and bass. The ensemble will learn and perform works of the baroque, classical, romantic and contemporary periods. Lynn Fleming will direct the group. For all ages, children through adults. Prerequisite is at least one year of study on an instrument. 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 29. Caning workshop

WAYNESBORO, Pa. ? Participants will learn how to make a woven cane seat during a two-part workshop. The workshop will be conducted by Merri Tabor. Tabor will guide participants in caning a footstool. The stool is made of unfinished wood, and Tabor will provide instructions so participants can stain and finish the stool at home. 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 31 and Feb. 7. Renfrew Park's visitors' center, 1010 E. Main St. $20 for members; $25 for nonmembers, plus $40 materials fee. Participants are required to attend both two-hour sessions.
