Contest honors Women's History Month

The 12th annual Claire Mumma essay contest in honor of Women's History Month will address the topic of Women in Politics this year.

Applicants will be asked to choose a favorite woman in politics and describe her life and accomplishments, why she is admired and what qualities they would most wish to emulate.

All Washington County students in grades 8-12 are eligible whether in public, private or home-schooled setting.

For the winning essays, prizes are $300 for first; $200 for second; $100 for third place; and $50 for honorable mention.

Entries must be received by Feb. 1 at 3 p.m.

Essays must be 500 to 2,000 words, typed and in essay form.

Submissions must list student's name, school, grade, teacher, principal, and student's home address and phone number.

Winning essays will be announced during an awards reception March 14.

Winners will be notified in advance and should plan to attend the reception to receive their award and recognition.
