Courtyard Cafe comes through with free meals

January 13, 2008

About 225 people turned out at Courtyard Cafe in downtown Hagerstown on Dec. 23 for a free turkey and ham dinner.

One of the restaurant's co-owners, Bill Crain Jr., said he wanted to do something to help those less fortunate. He said since the restaurant at 15 W. Washington St., has limited seating, most of the free meals were take-out. He said the first 100 people also received a case of food donated by Food Lion.

Volunteers included Louise and Bill Crain Sr., Bill and Taffey Crain Jr., Gerald Burke, Michael Hastings and Tony, Michael and Lauren Parks.

Sponsors included Demcore Development, Martin's Food, Food Lion, Chick-fil-A, Weis Supermarket, The Plum, Wright-Gardner Insurance Co., Raven House and Cloak and Cupboard Antiques.
