Show features colors of matrimony

CHAMBERSBURG, PA.

Color, especially champagne and rose, accented many of the wedding dresses featured Sunday afternoon during Bridal 2008 at Wilson College.

One gown, although available in white and ivory, was brought to Chambersburg from Las Vegas and shown in silver.

A brown tuxedo was featured in the show for a second year, and Barb Resh, of J&B Bridals and Formals, said it won "fabulous" feedback last year.

"Our industry says chocolate brown will become the new black," said Jim Resh, who owns the Chambersburg business with his wife.

The Downtown Business Council of Chambersburg and Main Line Broadcasting sponsored Bridal 2008, an event that was in its 23rd year. The Reshes said it is important to get the reputable vendors they trust under one roof for brides-to-be.

"One of the big concerns I see the brides have is the confidence in purchasing. ... We've had several brides within the past year who purchased things online that don't come in correctly," Jim Resh said.

The Reshes also said that they hear stories about fly-by-night businesses, whereas most of the ones featured Sunday have been there year after year. Many were used when the Reshes' daughter had her wedding.

"They're friends," Barb Resh said.

The Reshes said brides have been favoring dresses with elongated bodices that flare out. They also said that lace has been making a comeback and that pickup skirts are very popular.

Both Heather Griffith and Christina Cowan saw their gowns featured in the runway show.

"I already got my dress, but I was looking for mother of the bride," said Griffith, who is planning an August wedding.

She said her gown with attached fabric roses "just clicked" when she saw it.

Cowan, who is planning May nuptials, said her strapless gown "is just my dream dress." She visited Bridal 2008 to search for photographers and to visit other vendors.

Tricia Deshong, of McConnellsburg, Pa., read about Bridal 2008 online and talked to friends about the show prior to attending. Deshong said she is "just getting started" for her April 2009 wedding.
