HAGERSTOWN - A Hagerstown man pleaded guilty to two counts of sex abuse of a minor Wednesday morning in Washington County Circuit Court.

The man was charged with sex abuse and other crimes in connection with multiple encounters he initiated with his girlfriend's two granddaughters.

He was responsible for baby-sitting the children.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but 18 months suspended, to be served in the Division of Correction.

He must register as a child sexual offender upon his release and serve five years probation, the first three of which are to be supervised, Washington County Circuit Judge W. Kennedy Boone III ordered.

The mother of the victims was in court, but did not speak.

The man touched one of the girls while the two were watching NASCAR in the child's grandmother's bedroom, Assistant State's Attorney Gina Cirincion said during her statement of facts Wednesday morning.

The man pulled down the girl's pants and looked at her vagina with a flashlight, Cirincion said. He also touched the girl's sister several times beneath the child's clothing, Cirincion said.

Both girls were 12 years old during the time of the assaults, Cirincion said.

The man must not have any contact with the victims, Boone ordered.
